Shadow Home Secretary and Labour Leadership Candidate Yvette Cooper MP has called for more diversity in parliament, lower tuition fees and universal childcare during a visit to Hounslow. She was calling on attendees to support her in the election by giving her their first preference vote.

Over 100 people attended the packed event in Heston and asked questions on a range of topics from the economy and foreign policy to education and building strong communities.

She also remarked it was time the Labour Party elected its first woman leader, and to much applause said "We know David Cameron has a woman problem. So let's give him an even bigger one and elect our first Labour woman leader and then first Labour woman Prime Minister."

The event was also attended by Mr Sri Lal Dias and Ms Surya Samaraweera from Hounslow Janahanda Foundation who also interviewed Ms Cooper at the end of the event. The Labour Leadership election ballot papers are now being sent out and ballots close on September 10th. Labour members and supporters can vote for the candidates in order of preference.
