Sri Lanka and international hockey are for many years not a good mix, results at Asian tournaments are very poor and the best result was achieved by the men’s team in 1982. To improve hockey and to create more talents the Matale hockey academy was established, Matale is for decades the beating heart of Sri Lanka hockey, and they are the only hockey academy in the country and under the support of Central Provincial Council. Sri Lanka has 2 artificial pitches, one in Matale (15 years old) and the other one is located in Colombo (2013). For development many ideas has be made like indoor hockey, beach hockey and further steps for international cooperation with the Matale hockey academy.

Matale Hockey Academy

The Matale hockey academy as they are the beating heart of Sri Lanka hockey is looking for connections in the U.K.. Hockey players at different levels and age groups boys/girls, men/women with a Sri Lankan origin are kindly requested to contact the hockey academy. When we have enough Sri Lankan hockey players and/or young talented boys/girls we will like to initiate the start of a SL hockey academy under the Matale hockey academy.
Hockey academy abroad
The hockey academy abroad will come together on regular times and gets support from our international coordinator in the Netherlands Jaap Suyk. In the future we hope to organize an annual tournament for all Sri Lankan hockey academies from Sri Lanka and abroad in Matale.
