La Bamba Nite 2017

The Annual Peterite Ball "La Bamba Nite 2017" organised by the Committee of St. Peter's College Colombo, Old Boy's Union (UK Branch), was held at the Holiday Inn Wembley on Saturday 18th November.

Rev, Fr. Trevor Martin, Rector of St. Peter's College, Colombo graced the occasion with his presence as Chief Guest.
The evening commenced with a Champagne Reception, where a colorful model of the College Crest made of Ice was on display and provided many opportunities for photographs with Rev. Fr. Rector.
Singing of the College Anthem with great gusto by all the Old Boys followed.

Hon. President - Themiya Anthony de Mel welcomed Fr. Rector introducing him to all present.
Fr. Rector replied saying how proud he was to become the Rector of St. Peter's College, already well known in Sri Lanka for its high standard of education, both academic and in sports. He said his ambition now is to make it a College of Excellence and had already achieved very good results in recent examinations!

Children were dined and kept busy with an entertainer through the night, supervised by some parents, in an adjacent room.

Over 350 adults enjoyed a sumptuous Dinner that followed, washed down with complimentary fruit juices, Wines and Whisky !!
The ever popular Dinner/Dance that has made it's name in the London Social scene, was sold out weeks in advance !!.

To provide a wide variety of music for dancing, 2 well known bands 'EXCEED' from London and 'Rajiv Sebastian and the Clan' from Colombo delivered a continuous blend of music, and the ever popular Sri Lankan Baila were danced and thoroughly enjoyed by everybody !.
The Cabaret this year was a loud but delightful and entertaining Sikh Traditional Drumming group accompanying a Golden Saxophone !, which prompted some Bhangra dancing too !.

President Themiya de Mel was recognized by Fr.Rector and the OBU UK Committee for his continued contribution and support for St Peters Colombo and OBU UK. A valuable 'surprise' gift was given to Ladies on arrival with their partners and complimentary photographs were given to all present.
The star prize in the Raffle, a Return Air Ticket from London to Colombo, was won by Lakshika Peries.

Short-eats with tea and coffee were served at midnight and dancing continued until carriages at 1.30am.
The event was concluded with singing the Sri Lanka and United Kingdom National anthems.
