Yes, it is that time of the year again. The time to start planning your outfit, booking those tickets to London and tweeting your excitement with the hashtag #Sapphire2017. That’s right, Sapphire is back and back with a bang!

Can you believe there has been 20 years of Sapphire? No, me neither. But the Imperial College Sri Lankan Society have pulled out all of the stops again, booking the prestigious Hilton London Metropole for this annual charity dinner dance on 4th March.

The evening is going to kick-off with a chilled drinks reception, a perfect time to unwind and catch up with friends while snacking on some vadai and rolls to whet your appetite. After you are left craving more, the five-star catered, unlimited Sri Lankan buffet carts will roll out, full of your favourite dishes, including tender chicken curry, the classic dhal curry and of course kotthu. And don’t worry, they haven’t forgot about dessert, simmer down with some creamy chocolate biscuit pudding or fresh fruit salad with homemade ice cream to cap off the feast.
After you have gorged yourself on the cuisine, it’s time to dance the night away with pop’s latest sensation, Umaria Sinhawansa, Kandy Lamissi’s Mariazelle Goonetilleke and the baila legend that is Desmond de Silva who will all be backed by the UK’s no. 1 Lankan band, Exceed. Never have all three of these artists performed at one event together so make sure you don’t miss out!

But we all know why Imperial College Sri Lankan Society organise this event, Sapphire raises thousands of pounds every year to help the underprivileged in Sri Lanka. Last year, all of the profit made went to Child Aid Lanka to fund wells in Northern Sri Lanka. This year, the focus now is to aid in the expansion of the cancer unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with Trail and to help build a school for children with special educational needs in Gampola with Hela Sarana. If you want to contribute to the cause, please donate using their crowdfunding page: https://www.chuffed.org/project/sapphire2017

This night promises to be one to remember, from the first ever five star catering to the wide range of musical entertainment that will get everyone off their chairs and going crazy on the floor! So again, make sure you don’t miss out! Etch “Sapphire 4th March” in your diary, plug it in your phone calendar, stick the date on the fridge and head over to http://sapphire.icsrilankan.org/tickets/ and get your tickets before it’s too late.
