Ifthar hosted at the SL High Commission UK

The Acting High Commissioner, Sugeeshwara Gunaratna hosted an Ifthar (breaking fast) for the Sri Lankan Islamic community members living in the UK, on 30th June 2016 at the High Commission.
While welcoming the attendees, the Acting High Commissioner highlighted the significance of celebrating religious and cultural events which contributes to preservation of the values of different faiths. He further stated that the High Commission celebrates the main religious and cultural events of all the four main faiths which are practised in Sri Lanka. Underscoring the importance of ensuring the success of government initiatives on reconciliation, he elaborated on how universal values inherent in all faiths contribute to this process by bringing communities together.
Sheikh Hafiz Thalha Siddeeq delivered a talk on the “Virtues of Ramadan.” The Ifthar was well attended by a large number of Muslims of Sri Lankan origin. Representatives of Sri Lankan Muslim organizations thanked the High Commission for organizing the event.
