Annual Kathina robe offering for the monks at Jathavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham was held with the participation of a huge gathering of devotees on Sunday the 12th October 2014. The ceremony had been gracefully organised under the guidance of the Most Venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thera, the head of the Vihara and theChief Sanganayaka for Great Britain. Venerable Gunawansa Thera,Venerable Mapalagama SorathaThera, Tissapura Sugatharathana Thero had observed the rain retreat at the Vihara this year.
The event started with the offering of Buddha Puja at 11.15am. There were Venerable monks present from various temples in Sri Lanka and United Kingdom at the ceremony including Ven.Pidiville Pyatissa thero,the head monk of kethumati vihara,Manchester. Ven.Galpotyaye Pemananda thero and Ven.Pannala Sumana thero from Manchester vihara.Ven.Nilpanagoda Anoma Nayaka thero from Samadhi meditation centre, Edmonton. Ven. Wakamulle Uditha thero from Letchworth Buddhist viharaya .Ven.Maldeniye Chandaloka thero from Leceister temple, Venerable Theldeniyaye Amitha thera Head Monk of Nottingham Shanti Buddhist Vihara Venerable and Ven.Beragama Piyarathana thero from sri sambuddha viharaya, Liverpool.
The Kathina Robe was offered to the monks by the devotees with deep devotion and perehara reminding all participants the beauty and the religious atmosphere of a typical Kathina ceremony in a Sri Lankan Village. After the offering of kathina robe Dhamma Sermon were given in English by Venerable Beragama Piyarathana Thera and in Sinhala respectively by, Venerable Pidiwille Piyatissa Nayaka Thera and Venerable Theldeniyaye Amitha Thera and explaining the significance of offering a Kathina Robe. Atapirikara and requisites for the monks and food were offered by the members and devotees of Jetavana Buddhist Vihara. This year’s Kathina ceremony was sponsored by Mr.Kamal Siriwardhana and his family, Mr.Sugath Jayasinghe and his family.

සියලුම දෙනා සහභාගිවූ බුද්ධ පුජා පින්කමෙන් අනතුරුව වැඩමකළ මහා සංඝ රත්නය උදෙසා දහවල දානය පිරිනැමුණු අතර සියලුම ගිහි පින්වතුන් හට ආහාර පාන සපයනු ලැබිය.කඨින පින්කමේ මුලික දායකත්වය දරන ලද්දේ කමල් සිරිවර්ධන සහ සුගත් ජයසිංහ යන පවුල් දෙකෙහි සාමාජිකයින් විසිනි.ශ්‍රී ලාංකික සංස්කෘතික ගති ලක්ෂණ විදහාපෑ අලංකාර පෙරහරකින් කඨින වස්ත්‍රය විහාරස්ථානය වෙත වැඩමවන ලද අතර එහිදී සැදැහැවතුන් බොහෝදෙනාගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් එම වස්ත්‍රය සම්ප්‍රධානුකුලව කඨින චීවරයක් ලෙසට සුදානම් කෙරුණි.පුජ්‍ය බෙරගම පියරතන හිමියන් විසින් කඨින පින්කමක් සඳහා සහභාගිවීමෙන් ලැබෙන ආනිසංශ පිලිබඳ ඉංග්‍රීසි බසින් කරුණු පැහැදිලි කරදුන් ධර්මදේශනාවක් කළේය.
සිංහල ධර්මදේශනා පවත්වන ලද්දේ පුජ්‍ය තෙල්දෙණියේ අමිත හිමියන් සහ පුජ්‍ය පිදිවිල්ලේ පියතිස්ස හිමියන් විසිනි.
