KINGSBURY TEMPLE CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF REGAINING INDEPENDENCE

The Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre, together with the Sri Lanka Educational, Cultural and Welfare Foundation, organised a special Pujava on Thursday 4th February 2016 at 7.00 PM to commemorate the 68 th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Regaining Independence.

To signify the occasion, the devotees had placed 68 candles forming the number 68 on a small table. After Ven.(Dr) Handu Pelpola Mahinda Nayaka Thero, Ven. Nepale Tissa Thero and Ven Galayaye Dhammadassi Thero started proceedings by lighting the candles, the audience was invited to light the remaining 65 candles .Thereafter Ven. (Dr) Handu Pelpola Mahinda Nayaka Thero made a short Anusasana on the significance of the occasion, before the Pujava.

To mark the significance of the occasion, Ms Vineetha Talpawila, a devotee had made a cake for the celebration as well as a Kiribath Cake (cake made of Milk Rice) and placed small candles on this . She was invited to blow the ' Birthday Candles', with the assistance of her helpers Ms Rukmani Liyanage, Ms Sriyani Wijesuriya and Ms Rupa Kariyawasam, while the members of the audience , led by Mrs Rupa Monerawela and the SLECWF choir, sang the Sri Lanka National Anthem.

A beautiful short film on events in post colonial Sri Lanka, from Independence in 1948 to last year's Independence day was screened to an enthusiastic audience.
Kiribath, Cakes, Biscuits and Tea was served to the participants celebrating our National Day.
