Leeds Vesak Celebration 2016

A memorable Wesak Celebrations was held on Saturday 7th May 2016 at the Moor Allerton Sports and Social Centre Stonegate Road Leeds LS17 6EL.

Approximately, 70 Sri Lankan families primarily from Leeds and Bradford have witnessed this colourful event. This is the first public event organised by the Yorkshire Dhamma School.

The proceedings started with a special Dhamma Sermon delivered by a visiting monk from Sri Lanka. The most attractive event of the whole programme was the giant illuminated pandol, showing the story of Sama Jathakaya.

Ven Pidivelle Piyatissa Thero, The Chief Incumbent of Ketumati Buddhist Vihara has ceremonially lighted the Pandol up. Children of Yorkshire Dhamma School have delivered a factual presentation on Sama Jathakaya.

After the closing remarks from Ven Galpottayaye Pemananda Thero, everyone has enjoyed the Dansela with some delicious foods from Sri Lankan traditional cuisine.
