Letchworth Buddhist Temple Celebrated 2015 Vesak

This year the Vesak celebrations were organized by The Buddhist Community Center Letchworth (BCCL) on 3rd , 9th, 10th and 23rd May, 2015. Special Dhamma sermon (Kavi Bana) was delivered by Rev. Mathugama Palitha Thero. at the temple premises on Sunday 3th, Vesak Poya Day (full moon day) and a full day Sil Program (Retreat) was held on Saturday 9th with the guidance of Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero, Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero and Ven. Kattakaduwe Chandawimala Thero. The day began with the observance of Attanga Uposatha Seela by, devotees followed by meditation session, Dhamma sermon, afternoon Buddha Pooja, offering Dhana (lunch) to Ven. Monks and Upasak Upasikas and finished the sil program with a Dhamma discussion at 4.00 p.m. A large turnout of devotees observed Sil. A special sil program for children held at the temple premises on Saturday 23rd May from 9.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. with the guidance of Ven Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero.

On Sunday, 10th May, 2015 in the afternoon from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m, Vesak Celebration was held at St. Michael's Church Hall, Letchworth. Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero administrate the five precepts followed by a Dhamma sermon in English by Ven. Konwewe Ariyarathana Thero. and a Dhamma sermon in Sinhala by Ven. Kattakaduwe Chandawimala Thero. Several parents and friends of the BCCL organized a series of devotional songs (Bhakthi Geetha) sung by adults and children. The main attraction was a display of several beautiful Vesak lanterns and Vesak Greetings cards made by children. The day ended with a free food stall (dansala) organized and sponsored by devotees and friends of the Letchworth Temple.

All the events were well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK and local residence. The Maha Sangha, The BCCL management committee members and the organizers wish to extend their appreciation to all those who attended the event and extending their support for making the events a great success and look forward for their continued support in the future.
