Aggamahapandita Venerable Galayaye Piyadassi Sangha Nayaka Thero arranged an appropriate programme for the POSON Celebrations at the Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre in Kinsbury, North London, on Sunday 19 May 2016, which coincided with the Poson Full Moon Day.

Others who participated in the programme at the SSIBC were Ven.(Dr) HanduPelpola Mahida Nayaka Thero, Ven. Waskaduwe Subodhi Thero, Ven. Galayaye Dhammadassi Thero and Professor Sunill Kariyawasam, former lecturer at the Kelaniya University and present Buddhist Chaplain to the Armed Forces of the UK.

Professor Sunil Kariyakarawana, in his Dhamma Talk stressed the importance of Poson to all Sri Lakans, where ever they live. He also stressed the uniqueness of Buddhism compared to other religions. There was no omniscient and omnipresent god we have to believe. Not only this, according to Buddhism one doesn't have to wait for death to attain the status of a Bodhisatta.". You can achieve this in your lifetime by following the way shown by the Buddha. The Dhammachakra Sutta , the first sermon by the Buddha, gives the basic structure of the fundamentals of Buddhism. The Sattipattana Sutta gives the directions. The Anapana Sutta shows one how to train the mind by meditation and achieve mindfulness. We can achieve what we want by our own efforts.

At 6.30 pm ATAVISI BUDDHA PUJAVA was organised by Mr and Mrs Vajira Liyanage, to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary, at the Hyde School as the new sermon hall at the Vihara was not yet completed. At the venue a beautiful representation of Arahath Mahinda's meeting with King Devanam Piyatissa at Missaka Pawwa in Mihinthale was built by Jagath Ranasingha and Sarath Amarasinghe.

Atavisi Buddha Pujava was conducted by Venerable Dr. Kebellewe Sirisumana Thero. A large number of devotees and supporters of the Vihara attended the programme.
