VESAK OBSERVANCES AT KINGSBURY TEMPLE

This year the Waisakha Puja fell on Sunday 03 May 2015. The Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre had arranged a comprehensive programme befitting the auspicious occasion. The days programme started with the Buddha Pujava at 7.00am After the heel dana, offered by Devotees headed by Mrs Kamalika Abeywickrema, the Atasil, and Buddha Vandana was conducted by Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi, MBE who also delivered the Anusasdanava. While the meditation session was presided over by Dr Senevi Athrupana, Dhamma talks were delivered by Ven. Ingiriye Uditha Thero, Ven. Nepala Sumana Thero, Ven. Ketiyape Amithasara Thero, Ven. Godamunne Piyananda Thero and Ven. Galayaye Dhammadassi Thero. The Dhamma discussions were headed by Ven. (DR) HanduPelpola Mahinda Nayaka Thero.Ms Harshini Perera of the Brahma Kumari’s also gave a talk on the significance of meditation in Vingnanaya.The programme ended after the Bodhi Pujava at 7.00pm

MR B.H. Jayawardena and Mrs Ramya Jayawaredena made arrangements for the Dana for over 200 devotees who observed sil. In the evening, a Dansala was organised by Mr Manju Wickremasinghe and Mrs Wickremasinghe. A large crowd participated in the ceremonies, as the actual full moon day happened to be on a Sunday.

The Evening Pujava was devoted to remembering those affected by the devastating earthquake that affected Nepal. A pan vadima or transferring of merits ceremony was held. Ven. Nepal Sumana has launched an appeal to raise funds for rehabilitation through the World Buddhist Foundation, with the approval of Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Thero.
