An extra time try by Mithun Hapugodage helped Sri Lanka to storm into the semi-finals of the 17th Asian Games men's seven-a-side rugby tournament with a hard-fought win over China at Namdong Asiad Rugby Field today.

Sri Lanka's exciting 24 points to 19 win over China in the extra time of their quarter final match helped Sri Lanka to enter the last four, giving them a chance of winning a medal in Asian Games rugby sevens.

China took a close 14-12 lead at half time but Sri Lanka fought back to make it 19-all at the long whistle of referee Timothy Baker. Hapugodage became an instant hero when he found that match-winning try in the extra time was three minutes and 45 second old. Thus, Sri Lanka managed to pull out a dramatic 24 points (two goals and two tries) to 19 (two goals and a try) win over China in a keenly contested quarter final match.
