Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera passes away

Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera has passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Singapore.

This was confirmed to newsfirst by the chief incumbent of the Nagaviharaya in Kotte.

The 73 year old Sobhitha Thera was a chief monk who provided leadership and assured social justice in Sri Lanka.

The late Thera engaged in a working programme to ensure coexistence between nations.

Kotte Sri Kalyani Most Venerable Iththapanee Dhammalankara Thera Maha Sangha Sabha stated that it is an irreparable loss to the nation.

Ven Ulpane Sumangala stated that Ven Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera was an erudite monk who fearlessly defended the nation in difficult times.

Born on the 29th of May 1942 in Maduluwewa in Padukka, Homagama to a family of 3 children. He rose to the title of Maduluwawe Sobitha at the Srinaga Viharaya in Kotte on the 9th of May 1955.
