150th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Anagarika Dharmapala sponsored by the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK

On 15th September 2014, the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers sponsored the second day celebrations of the week-long event to commemorate the birth of Anagarika Dharmapala at the London Buddhist Vihara Chiswick.

The event commenced with offering flowers, gilan pasa, lighting and incense to the Lord Buddha in the shrine room. Venerable. Thawalama Bandula administered the five precepts.

The chief guest who graced the occasion was the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in the UK His Excellency Dr. Chris Nonis. On arrival, he was received by the Most Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala, Head of the London Buddhist Vihara, other resident monks, members of the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers and the Management Committee of the Vihara.

Following the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, Venerable Seelawimala in his welcome speech highlighted the valuable contribution made by Anagarika Dharmapala, founder of the London Buddhist Vihara to the revival of Buddhism and independence of Sri Lanka.

Dr. Nonis garlanded the bust of Anagarika Dharmapala and opened the exhibition with academic reference to the life and work of the distinguished scholar.

The High Commissioner addressed the audience and so did Miss. Surya Samaraweera, the General Secretary on behalf of the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers.

Everyone joined for refreshments at the conclusion of the proceedings.
