North London Katikna Ceremnoy at Enfeild

The North London Katina ceremony was held on the 01 November in Enfield with the blessings of Maha Sangha.

The Vassana retreat began on the Esala Poya day with the invitation from the main sponsors to the Most Venerable Panamure Thapassee Thero to observe Vas at Enfield Vihara. The venerable monk organised weekly dhamma desana, pirith chanting and atvisi Buddha pooja during the rain retreat and devotees in large numbers attended the weekly programmes.

The main sponsors of the rain retreat and the Katina ceremony were:
Mrs. Ratna Gunathunga,Mrs. Champika Gallege, Mr. Anura Gallege, Mrs. Padma Ariyadasa, Mrs. Olivia Hapangamaarachchie, Mrs. Malini Karunarathna, Mrs. Ranjini Gunasekare, Mrs. Swarna Anandaraja, Mr. Arunada Silva, Mrs.Ramya Silva, Mrs. Himali Alwis ad Mrs. Prema Jayawickrema.

On the 01st November, the Katina ceremony commenced at 5.00 a.m. with ceremonially bringing the Katina cheevara to the Enfield vihara. After offering the morning alms to venerable monks, the devotees began the final stitching of the Katina cheevara and completed by 1PM.

Over 200 devotees attended the Katina ceremony and to represent Maha sangha six most venerable monks were attended. Most Venerable, Dr. Dikwelle Upathissa Maha Thero, Borelle Athula MahaThero, Kahaduwe Shanthideva Thero, Brithanye Maha Kashyapa Thero and Omare Somissara Thero were present.

The five precepts were administered by Most Venerable Dr. Dikwelle Upathissa Maha Thero from Upton Park Sambodhi Vihara and Katina dharma desana was delivered by the Most Venerable Borelle Athula Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Borelle Authadassana Maha Vihara, Sri Lanka and the Most Venerable Kahaduwe Shanthideva Thero led the Katina program.
After performing the vinaya by maha Sangha, the Katina Cheevara was offered to the Most Venerable Panamure Thapassee Thero.

A trendous support was given by the parents of the Daham Pasela & the other devotees of the temple to make the event a great success.
