Sri Lanka progressed to the final of the Men’s Cricket Competition in the Asian Games by beating Bangladesh after the toss decided the result in a rain-affected game on Thursday. The Sri Lankan captain Lahiru Thirumane called tails and this proved to be the right call after match referee Venkatpathy Raju summoned both skippers to settle on a result after the ground was unfit due to the rain.

Earlier only 11 overs of the  game could be played as the Bangladesh side batted first. When the rain came Bangladesh’s score stood at 59 for the loss of three wickets. They had the worst of starts as Sri Lankan bowler Dilhara Lokuhettige struck early when he reduced Bangladesh to three for two. Isuru Udana then had Shakib Al Hasan caught by Kithuruwan Vithanage leaving Bangladesh tottering at six for three.

Thereafter they recovered as Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman took Bangladesh to 59 runs before the rain came lashing down and prevented further play.
