Expatriate Sri Lankans have a legendary reputation in Britain for being able to throw a fine party, no more so than the Sri Lankan Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA). The SLMDA's annual charity gala is one of the main highlights of the Lankan social calendar in the UK and this year's event - the 31st annual edition of the gala - was no different. To boot, the 2013 SLMDA Gala Dinner Dance - held at the Raddisson Edwardian Hotel near Heathrow - had a distinctly feminine touch this year what with president Dr Ruvini Senasinghe bringing her own distinct personality to the event, with some quite elaborately soft touches and a very moving tribute to the past presidents of the Association. Music of course, is an integral part of any event and this one was no different with 'Sky High' keeping the guests swaying into the early hours of the morning. It was competed by the best Sri Lankan compere in town Vijitha Alles.
