The SPMPPA in London held their annual Dinner Dance on the 2nd of November 2013, at the Ashiana, on 50-52 Bell Road, Hounslow TW3 3PB. The celebrations began at 7.00 pm. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was the drop-dead Chandi Karunaratne, wearing a flesh-fitting glorious white ensemble (which she would have had difficulty getting out of, leaving getting into)!!! The festivities began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Committee Members, the effervescent Manjula Yapa (President), the attractive Dr. Habiba Rawoof (Vice President), the delightful Shaira Mayadeen (Secretary), the enchanting Cherine Deane (Asst. Secretary), the voluptuous Dr. Shanthini Fonseka (Treasurer), the fascinating Chandini Pathiranage (Asst. Treasurer), the attractive Chandi Karunaratne, the lovely Champika Athukorala, the captivating Daisy Hassan, the radiant Ramya Rupasinghe & last but not least (!!) the gorgeous Dr. Rehana Shakir.
The President's welcome speech followed the lamp-lighting. It was short, clear & to the point. She started the ball rolling immediately after, by taking to the floor to the melodic music supplied by Manjula Munasinghe & Lalindra Fernando. Guests were called to the buffet dinner by order of table numbers. While this was going on, the more athletic showed the others what they had learned from watching "Strickly Come Dancing"!! What came next was a fashion show of elegant men & women displaying fashionable & chic clothes. The lady who organized it deserves tons of praise for putting on such a magnificent show. There was a stand where one could buy some of the saris modelled. A baila competition followed, with Zounie Fallil & Nazeer Mayadeen chosen to act as judges. They chose Krishanthi OO7 & Ifthy Ahamadeen to win it. Binthi & Puthra Sheriffdeen came second by 9.46 seconds (coincidentally the same as Usain Bolt's world record)!!
For only £20 a head, this Dinner Dance could not be beaten, value for money. It may not have been the easiest venue to get to, but the girls put on a show that was the best of all the similar events I have been to, over the past 12 months. Others have expressed the same view & that says a lot for the past pupils of St. Paul's Milagiriya. They worked so hard to make this function a success and they did, in abundance. The Dance ended at midnight, after the singing of the Sri Lankan & British anthems.
Three cheers for the ST. PAUL'S MILAGIRIYA PAST PUPIL'S ASSOCIATION IN LONDON.
