Tenth anniversary - law medical dinner dance

17 Jul 2013 119 photos

The members of the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK (ASLLUK) and the members of the Sri Lankan Medical and Dental Association in the UK (SLMDA) held their customary annual dinner dance on the 6th July 2013 in the splendid surroundings of the Holiday Inn, Wembley. It was the tenth anniversary of Law Medical Dinner Dance and on this occasion the event was hosted by the Lawyers, with Mr. Wasantha Tennakoon and his wife Ajantha playing the lead role.

The occasion was well attended by members of both professions and was graced by His Excellency Dr. Chris Nonis, the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka. Harendra de Silva QC. President of the ASLLUK and Dr.Ruvuni Senasinghe (President of the Sri Lankan Medical & Dental Association) welcomed the guests.

The crowds swayed to the music by ‘Sky High’ a leading Sri Lankan band in the UK. Their music brought in the sweet memories of yester years.

The banquet of traditional Sri Lankan food served in an elegant setting, was fit enough to satisfy the most discerning palate.

We had the pleasure of the company of Dr. Nihal Samasinghe who along with myself organised the first Law Medical dinner dance to coincide with the 50th Anniversary Law Medical Cricket Match in March 1970.

The event was roaring success with the master of ceremonies Mr. Vijitha Alles playing a key role. It finally concluded in the early hour of the morning the singing of the Sri Lanka national anthem.
