The first Wesley Charity walk, which was initiated by President Nalin Perera, was held on Sunday the 9th of June 2013. It was coordinated by Tyrone Namasivayan (Secretary), Gaz Hameed (Treasurer), Paul David (PR Secretary), Janakan Soloman (Social Secretary), Azahim Mohamed (Sports Secretary) with the assistance of the whole committee.

The event started with the prayers by the secretary followed by a welcome from the President and a special guest speech by senior past President Mr Paul David, who congratulated the committee on the novel idea of fundraising using only the physical efforts and the labour of the committee members. He further said that we all owe a great debt to Wesley College, Colombo and we are proud to repay them with our sincere and humble efforts.

The walk started with past presidents Mr Paul David and Mr Azahim Mohamed cutting a double blue ribbon with the current committee. The walk proceeded lead by the Wesley flag bearer through the scenic nature trail at Aldenham Country Park which is 700 acres. The walkers enjoyed the scenic beauty in spite of the arduous walk through the dirt trail. It was a tiring but uplifting experience for all the walkers who took part.

After the walk, the walkers joined in the fellowship and enjoyed the picnic lunch mostly of Sri Lankan authentic food donated by the committee which was shared with some of the families who were in the park.

The president announced that around 100 sponsorship cards were distributed and the expected contributions of the sponsorship from the families and friends of the walkers and other Weslyites should help us to reach in excess of the target £2500.00.

In conclusion the president thanked all the walkers and their families for displaying a spirit of determination and humble service to support our alma mater and he appealed for the same support for our future projects.

Building on the success from the last two projects this year, Wesley College OBU UK plans to offer an alms giving in August to remember all past Principals, teachers and Wesleyites. They will also have their annual lunch in September followed by the joint carol service with Methodist College in December.
