A delegation from the Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK (ASLLUK) attended a simple ceremony held at the Anuradhapura General (Teaching) Hospital on 9th August 2016 to formally inaugurate the CRRT Machine donated by ASLLUK at a cost of 2.6 million Sri Lankan Rupees. (CRRT is a dialysis-type machine, which is used to treat critically ill, hospitalized patients in the intensive care unit who develop acute kidney injury [AKI] by providing those patients with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy).

The above donation was greatly appreciated and welcome as a much-needed rescue package as the Anuradhapura General Hospital only had one aging machine to treat an exceptionally large number of patients coming from the vast catchment area that is severely affected by AKI.

This event received wide publicity in Sri Lanka and it was shown on Sinhala news on Derana TV, one of the country-wide television channels.

The news presenter commented:

"The Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK has donated a CRRT machine to Anuradapura Teaching Hospital. Our reporter says the cost of the machine is Rs.2600000 (Twenty six hundred Thousand rupees).

Dr. Sheela Rathnayake of Anuradapura Hospital had requested a CRRT machine through a friend in the UK. The Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK (ASLLUK) came forward to offer this donation to the hospital.

The ASLLUK become aware, through media, that there are a huge number of Kidney patients in the Anuradapura District and as a consequence they decided to donate this machine"

Dr. Sheela Rathnayake said:

"When Kidney failure is sudden and fast this machine plays a vital role to savethe lives of the affected patients. We only have one machine in this hospital. When we suggested we needed another machine, The ASLLUK were very happy to make this donation to us. I consider this ASLLUK's offering as being a great and noble act"

Mr. Upali Jayatilake on behalf of ASLLUK said:

"They requested the donation of a CRRT machine to Anuradapura Hospital. Today we accomplished that request"
