Sri Lankan Youth Organisation (SLYO) of the UK is a non profit organisation, and was created to bring about a change for unity, an impetus to succeed and an improvement in the living standards of Sri Lankans youth, both at home and away. Our mission here at SLYO is underlined by the philosophy that today’s youth is tomorrows future, this is achieved by uniting youth to promote a future generation of leaders, provide networking opportunities and endow them the ability to make a meaningful difference in our community. SLYO UK is the first international chapter established on 11 August 2013, primed by the drive and focus of Shanyka Imiachchi and Ajinthan Nirmalan; our President and Vice-President respectively. Since our drive stems from enabling growth amongst the Sri Lankan community, we managed to gather great support when forming SLYO UK and effectively became a strong committee united with mutual ideologies.

SLYO aims to enrich the lives of the youth in today’s society, we stand for what is deemed correct, remaining close to our roots and our culture in an attempt not to lose our identity, whilst living in the most culturally diverse country in the world.

SLYO UK has held several events as a subsidiary for our main summer project. The events we hold aims to aid the most underprivileged local communities, ranging from feeding the homeless on the streets of London to cooking and serving the underprivileged with a substantial meal. In addition to the work within our local communities, we joined with the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown to bring the prestigious Run for Their Lives (RTFL) charity run to the UK. RTFL is a charity run which is nationally renowned in mainland Sri Lanka. With our support we achieved a great success whereby £2000 was raised for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of Maharagama, Sri Lanka. With all our fundraising ventures, we epitomised the need to contribute back to our diverse communities, and with this we are able to encourage youth to obtain a sense of pride, conscientiousness and a willingness to become great citizens of tomorrow’s world. These characteristics were emphasised during our summer project of 2013.
