Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Sangha Nayaka Thero arranged a special programme to celebrate the commemoration of Sri Lanka's regaining of Independence on 4th February 2007 at the Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre.

The programme began at 6.00PM with the screening of a film '69 Years of Independence' made using clips of Independence Celebrations made by the government information Department. It was screened mainly for the students and parents of the Sri Saddhatissa Dhamma School. It was important that young children most of them born here, should know a little about their mother country. After all many of them go to Sri Lanka regularly as they have relations there. They should not lose their national identity, though they integrate with the local community. The film also showed the Independence Day Celebrations in Colombo held on the same day.
Later a Buddha Puja was held to bless the Country, its leaders and people.
