Maithripala Sirisena to be sworn in as the sixth President of Sri Lanka

Maithripala Sirisena is to be sworn in as the sixth President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at Independence Square this evening.

This announcement was made by leader of the UNP and the Opposition Ranil Wikramesinghe at a press briefing held on the morning of Friday, January 9, at the Opposition Leader’s Office.

Speaking at a press briefing, Ranil Wikramesinghe said that victory of Maithripala Sirisena is assured, and called on all people not to engage in any acts of political vengeance.
