KATHINA PINKAMA 2015 - KINGSBURY BUDDHIST TEMPLE

The Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Center/ Kingsbury Buddhist Temple observed the Kathina Celebrations on Saturday 31 October 2015 and Sunday 1 November 2015. The Atavisi Pujava, a colourful ceremony to pay homage to the 28 Buddhas of the past, was held on Saturday 31st October 2015 in the midst , of a large crowd, making offerings of Gillanpassa, Siyuras and Ataprikara to the 28 previous Buddhas by name placed on a pedestal. The Buddha Pujava was conducted by Ven. Amithasara Thero and the Sermon was delivered by Ven. Nepale Pagnaratana Thero.

The main sponsors of the Vas. Mr & Mrs B.H. Jayawardena, Mr & Mrs Manjula Wickremarachchi, Mr & Mrs Athula De Silva and Mr & Mrs Ajith Rohana and their family members led the procession escorting the Kathina Chivara brought from the residence

of Mr & Mrs Jayewardena in Kingsbury on the morning of the 1st of November at 6.30 AM. The sewing of the Katina Robe was initiated by Mrs Wimal De Silva, Mrs Mallika Bandara and Ms Lalitha Samarasekera. A full days programme had been prepared by Ven. Aggamaha Panditha Galayaye Piyadassi, MBE Nayaka Thero.The morning Dana was prepared by Mr Sanka & Dr(Mrs)Gayathri Illangkoon. Mid day Dana was arranged by the sponsors of the Kathina. The Kathina Robe Offering ceremony took place at 3.30 PM and the resident monks unanimously decided to present the Kathina Robe to Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Nayaka Thera, since the SSIBC was celebrating it’s 25 th Anniversary and the hundredth birth anniversary of Ven.(Dr) Hamalawa Saddhatissa Nayaka Thero, this year.

Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Nayaka Thero also took the opportunity to donate Aid collected by the World Buddhist Foundation for the Nepalese earthquake victims to two Nepalese Buddhist monks present, to be used for rehabilitation work in their home towns.

The monks present at the ceremony, besides Aggamahapandita Galayaye Piyadassi Nayaka Thero, were Ven. (Dr) HanduPelpola Mahinda Nayaka Thero, Ven. Waskaduwe Sobodhi Thero, Ven. Katiyepe Amithasara Thero, Ven. Nepale Pagnaratana Thero . Ven. Nepale Sumana Thero, Ven. Nepale Tissa Thero, Ven. Nepale Sujan Thero and Ven Galayaye Dhammadassi Thero. Head of the Letchworth Dhamma Nikethanaya Ven. Akurala Samitha Thero also participated.
