Former Sri Lanka captain and acting coach Marvan Attapattu has been appointed as the permanent coach, the Sri Lanka Cricket board said today.

At a meeting held two day ago it was decided to shortlist 2 candidates for the post of head coach of the Sri Lanka Cricket team and Marvan Attapattu was one of them.

The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, which met this evening, decided to pick Atapattu as head coach with the cricket world cup also set to take place next year.

Attapattu’s appointment however had some controversy. National selector Sanath Jayasuriya, who was also part of the committee appointed to select the coach, resigning from the committee over differences of opinion on the selection of the coach.
