Sheffield Sri Lankan New Year Celebrations 2016

Sheffield Sri Lankans celebrated the “Bak Maha Udanaya – 2016” on the bright sunny Sunday. It was a tremendous success thoroughly enjoyed by all participants with over a hundred attending from all around Sheffield including Retford, Leeds, Nottingham etc. There were all the traditional games also with a Jankavi competition which turned out to be a big hit.

There were many cute participants for the junior Auwrudu prince and princess competition. Also on show were many traditional dresses and costumes and a worthy best dressed lady and gentleman were chosen. The traditional cousin, “Awurudu rasa kawili” prepared by the talented committee members contributed to the beautiful meals table with the nostalgic taste of Sri Lanka. G.G.Shipping in London were among the sponsors and the day’s activities concluded with singing and dancing to the music of Rhythm Brothers LK.
