The unstealable bike

This is to everyone who rides a bike in their daily commute. We know you're tired of carrying the lock everywhere you go. But worry no more. Three engineering students from Chile have teamed up and engineered a bike that is unstealable.  Dubbed "The Yerka Project", the cycle's frame closes in on itself to secure the bike, meaning the only way it can be stolen is by breaking the bike.

The team says, "We are 3 engineering students, that being victims of the theft of our bicycles, decided to develop a technology that prevents this." According to them you can secure the bike and be on your way in less than 20 seconds.

Although this method secure the bike frame, it doesn't secure the wheels and the saddle. Now how many of you have seen bike frames without tires? So you'd probably want to take those two parts with you if you're worried about them being stolen.

As it stands, the Yerka project is just a project, and there's no word on whether we'll see these bikes hit store shelves. With bike theft still a major problem in metropolitan areas, we can only hope the work translates into a widely available product sooner rather than later.
