Sri Lanka Participates in Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Commonwealth Day Events in London
The Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Retreat, followed by the formal session of the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM), was held at Lancaster House, London, on 8th March 2026, bringing together Foreign Ministers and delegations from across the Commonwealth to deliberate on key global challenges and strengthen cooperation among member states.
Sri Lanka was represented at the meetings by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, H.E. Nimal Senadheera, who attended as Head of Delegation, accompanied by officials of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London. Sri Lanka’s formal interventions for both the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Retreat and the formal session of CFAMM were presented to the Commonwealth Secretariat by the Sri Lanka Delegation, outlining Sri Lanka’s perspectives on strengthening economic cooperation, advancing sustainable development, promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience, and enhancing collaboration within the Commonwealth.
On 9th March 2026, High Commissioner Senadheera participated in Commonwealth Day events in London, including the Commonwealth Flag Hoisting Ceremony hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons at Portcullis House. He also attended the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society and attended by members of the British Royal Family, as well as the Commonwealth Day Reception hosted by the Commonwealth Secretariat at St James’s Palace. These events brought together leaders, diplomats, and representatives from across the Commonwealth to mark the occasion.
Commonwealth Day, observed annually by the 56 member states of the Commonwealth, celebrates the shared values, diversity, and enduring partnerships among its members. Sri Lanka’s participation in these engagements reflects its continued commitment to strengthening cooperation within the Commonwealth and advancing collective efforts toward sustainable development and shared prosperity.
