Sri Lankan Night Dinner & Dance Night for a Good Cause

The Sri Lankan Night Dinner & Dance Night held at the Ashiana Banqueting Hall, Hounslow, on 8th November 2014 was a tremendous success. A group of friends, born in Sri Lanka and living in the United Kingdom, decided to make a positive contribution to the funds created by Sri Lanka Leukaemia Foundation (UK). The organising committee of this event endorsed that the full proceeds will be donated to SLLF(UK) so that the funds will be utilised to extract the optimum benefit towards the Maharagama Cancer Hospital in Sri Lanka.

The night got underway with a speech by John Kern, Hon. President of SLLF(UK), who gave an introduction of the association. He mentioned that since the launch of Sri Lanka Leukaemia Foundation (UK) in 2008 it has grown from strength to strength, raising impressive sums to help the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. It was also emphasised that the Foundation have dispersed £14k(Rs.2.7 mil) into two separate projects. The first project of an IT education Unit that will meet the need of continued professional training for the medical staff in the hospital was completed on the 20th September 2013. The contribution was greatly appreciated by the Directors of the Health Ministry and the Director of Maharagama Cancer Hospital and medical staff who expressed there gratitude and specified that the Maharagama Institute have achieved a significant milestone by inaugurating the first ever health information & research unit in Sri Lanka.

The second project was applied towards the construction of a roof cover over the access ramp to connect the children's ward and was completed in June 2014.

The President of SLLF(UK) also specified that the binding policy of the foundation is that we exclusively donate all our funds raised from our well wishes to specific projects identified by the management of Maharagama Cancer Hospital and all these can be achieved only if there are sufficient funds available.

The night was enlightened with surprises competition, Baila competitions and raffle draws. There were many magnanimous donors who helped with donations and raffle gifts with a return Air Ticket to Sri Lanka by courtesy of Paradise Travel & Tours and many more fabulous prices which made this event a success.

The evening featured with a sumptuous Baila dance display by Shynika & Ruwan who were the unanimous winners.

The first price raffle draw a return Air ticket to Sri Lanka was won by Rozana Mutukisna.

The organizing committee of the event Nihal & Subi Perera, John Kern, Sharmane & Prianke Fernando Niranjan Dias Sarojini Amarawansa, and Novemal Fernando, thanked for the music by Suresh & Denzil and the "BREEZE" joined with Manel who entertained the guest with rousing rendition of popular hits and for the Management & Staff of Ashiana Banqueting Hall for providing the guests with a selection of tasty dishes, and the guests who contributed to a worthy cause.

The night concluded with a cheque for over £3200 was presented to Dr,Narada Wijayatilake the Hon.Secretary of SLLF(UK), by Nihal & Subi Perera. Mr. Narada thanked, on behalf of the SLLF(UK), the organizing committee of Sri Lankan Night for their hard work and for raising such a substantial funds.
