2015 Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration was held by Buddhist Cultural Center Letchworth (BCCL) on 18th April 2015 at The Free Church Hall, Norton Way, Letchworth. The distinguish guests were His Excellency Right Honorable Dr. Chanaka Talpahewa the acting High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in The United Kingdom and the Secretary, Sri Lankan High Commission Mrs Seevali Wijewantha
The resident Monk Rev. Mathugama Palitha Thero commenced the celebration by observing the five precepts and a short sermon highlighting the importance of celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, followed by a speech by Mrs. Seevali Wijewantha. .
Highlights of the event comprised with traditional Sri Lankan outdoor/indoor sports followed by Sri Lankan classical music and dancing performed by children and young adults of the Dhamma class, under the guidance of the respective parents. Young excited children took part in New Year beauty queen and prince competition in traditional costumes. Rev. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero. and the most senior member of the community Mr. Ebert Perera blessed the guests by anointing of herbal oil.
The event was well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK and local residence and all had a pleasant social get together. The venerable Monks and the BCCL management committee members wish to extend their appreciation for all those who attended the event and extending their support for making this event a great success and look forward for their continued support in the future.
