Vesak Celebration at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara 2016 in Birmingham

The Vesak Fullmoon day (Vesak Poya Day) marks the Birth, the enlightenment, and the passing away of the Buddha. It is the most important and highest event for the Buddhist in Buddhist Calendar. A special Vesak Celebration at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara was marked by Precept observation programme, meditation session, Dhamma sermon, Dhamma Discussion blessing programmes on Sunday 22nd May 2016 throughout the day. The programme was commenced by administering eight precept (Ata Sil) by the Most venerable Keppitiyagoda Gunawansa Thero Chief Sangha Nayaka to Great Britain of Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya Sect. Then Dhamma sermon was given by the Nayaka Thero in Sinhala. Dhamma sermon was also delivered by Kirama Gunawansa Thero. Meditation was and Dhamma discussion was conducted by Rev. Beragama Piyarathana Thero in English. The morning dana for the precept observers was sponsored by Mr. Ganewatte and Mrs. Ganewatte and family. Lunch dana was sponsored by Mr Palitha Bandara Mrs. Asha Bandara and family. Special Buddhist hymns were sung by the children of Jethavana Dhamma school and devotees of the temple. Special blessing service was held to bless the victims of floods disaster in Sri Lanka. Merits were transfer to the victims of departed victims of the mud slide disaster. Many items were collected to distribute flood victims in Sri Lanka. Many devotees of Jethavana Buddhist Vihara participated in the programme.
