It is with the deepest sadness that we share the news of the demise of Mr. Akhila Gallage. He passed away on 12th August 2022.

He was a student of SLIIT (Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology) and was working in the UK as a Software Engineer. He moved to the UK from Sri Lanka as a student of the Sheffield Hallam University and he recently moved to London from Sheffield.

Mr. Akhila Gallage passed away in a tragic drowning accident in River Thames near the Desborough Sailing Club in Shepperton, Surrey. Eyewitnesses reported that he'd gone underwater and failed to come back to the surface. A team of divers, Surrey Search and Rescue, fire service and ambulance crews were all sent in search for him.

His death is treated as unexplained by the investigators, however they do not believe at this stage that anyone else was involved.

We at Api SriLankan offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he attain the blissful peace of Nibbana!

Mr. Akhila Gallage's friends in the UK are trying to help the family as much as they can by raising funds for the funeral costs or their next step. If possible, please go ahead and kindly help the cause.
