Despite killing the main character, Warner Bros has plans to return to the post-apocalyptic world of I Am Legend, with a reboot-slash-refresh of its 2007 Will Smith vehicle.

That film ended on a pretty conclusive point, with the leading man's character, Dr Robert Neville, sacrificing himself to secure a cure for the pseudo-vampiric plague that had befallen mankind. Ignoring that finality, and likely in no small part due to the movie grossing $586m (£363m) worldwide, plans have floated for a follow-up for years. A prequel, detailing Neville's efforts in the early days of the epidemic, was planned, but producer Akiva Goldsman eventually killed it when a good enough story couldn't be found.

Enter Gary Graham, who was working at a Manhattan Apple Store when he submitted a script called A Garden at the End of the World to The Black List. When that script caught the attention of agent Brooklyn Weaver, it became a bit of a hot property, eventually being bought by Warners. Noticing similar themes in Graham's script to the I Am Legend setting, Warners asked him to revamp it to fit that world.
