The honourable President, Mr. Nalin Perera, paid tribute to the Chief Guest and our co-sponsors Mr. Buddhika Bulathgamage of Savinta Leisure and Sai Pathmanathan of Lycafly. The president also thanked the young Wesleyites who joined the union and contributed a great deal to make the OBU (UK) strong and excel in sports, charity and social activities.
In his welcome speech, the president said , “Being at Wesley is not just about passing exams... the college gave us the education and the skills to excel in life” He continued,” I learnt leadership skills as the head prefect. I built up confidence to perform at all levels as the captain of the debating team. And the Sinhala literary union and the cultural festivals taught me how to organise events and perform to the highest of standards. All these are skills that I use in my life right now... Most importantly, honesty and integrity are some of the key elements that Wesley College taught all its students. Anyone who doesn’t have these cannot call themselves a Wesleyite” he said.
The president also thanked honourable secretary Mr. Tyrone Namasivayam, honourable treasurer Mr. Ghanzafer Hameed, social secretary Mr. Anton George, Mr. Paul David, Dr. Ana Thevathasan, Mr. Rex Thevathasen, Mr. Mano David, Mr. Azahim Mohamed and the rest of the committee members for all the hard work they put in to make the dance a great success.
Mr. Nalin Perera paid tribute to all past presidents, vice presidents and founder members, and especially to Mr. Hari Jeganathan, Mr. Tyrone Namasivayam, Mr. Ghanzafer Hameed and Mr. Mono David who were awarded momentos by the executive committee for their commitment and outstanding achievements in the UK.
Special thanks to Mr. Denzil Ratnam, General Manager Holiday Inn Wembley (020 8902 8839) for all his assistance extended to the Wesley College OBU (UK) at the dinner dance on the night, Mr. Buddhika Bulathgamage of Savinta Leisure and Mr. Sai Pathmanathan of Lycafly for the major sponsorship of the dinner dance.
The fabulous music was provided by Sky High and the lead singers whose great singing helped to increase the tempo of the dinner dance. The executive committee would like to thanks ZG Design and Mrs Zahira Ismail for the beautiful decorations that suited one of the best schools in Sri Lanka (020 7199 4567) and also to our sponsors, donors, advertisers and all our guests for their continued support.
