Amari Wijewardene proposed as next Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in the United Kingdom

( February 7, 2016, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Amari Wijewardene, the owner of Swadeshi Industries, has been named as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Britain.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is awaiting the approval of her agréement before the formal official announcement. The post has remained vacant for more than one year now. There is also no Deputy High Commissioner so far.

The Sri Lankan government has appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's cousin Amari Wijewardena as the new Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

She is currently the Chairperson of the Swaeshi group which has interests in a wide range of businesses. Wijewardena is also known for her affiliation with Buddhism. She has sponsored the Aloka Pooja at Kelani Raja Maha Vihare and Kiriwehera Kataragama Devale, and the Maha Saman Devale in Ratnapura.

Wijewardena, also sponsored the Aloka Pooja at Dambadeniya Raja Maha Vihare.She is the Pradana Dayikawa (main benefactor) of the Kelaniya Rajamaha viharaya.

Amari Wijewardena is the granddaughter of Lious Wijewardena, a sibling of D.R. Wijewardena, the founder of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited commonly known as Lake House.

D.R. Wijewardena is the maternal grandfather of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.

Amari Wijewardena is also a cousin of Ruwan Wijewardena, the State Minister of Defence.

Highly placed government sources also stated that Wijewardena's name had already been sent to the Committee of High Post as the suitable candidate for the position which remained vacant for nearly two years.

වසරකට වැඩි කාලයක් තිස්සේ පුරප්පාඩුවී පැවැති බි‍්‍රතාන්‍යයේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහකොමසාරිස් ධූරයට මෙරට ප‍්‍රකට ව්‍යාපාරික කාන්තාවක් වන අමරි විජයවර්ධන මහත්මිය රජය විසින් නම් කරනු ලැබ ඇත.
ඒ අනුව බි‍්‍රතාන්‍යයේ නව ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ කොමසාරිස් ධූරයට අමරි විජයවර්ධන මහත්මිය ගේ උසස් නිලතල පිළිබඳ පාර්ලිමේන්තු කාරක සභා අනුමැතිය සඳහා යොමු කර ඇතැයි වාර්තාවේ.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහකොමසාරිස්වරිය ලෙස නම් කළ අමරි විජයවර්ධන මහත්මිය මෙරට ප‍්‍රමුඛ පෙළේ පෞද්ගලික සමාගමක් වන ස්වදේශී සමාගාමේ සභාපතිනියද වේ.
එම ධූරයේ මීට පෙර කටයුතු කළ වෛද්‍ය ක‍්‍රිස් නෝනිස් මැක්වුඩ් සමාගමේ ප්‍රධානියෙකි. 2014 සැප්තැම්බර් මාසයේදී සජින් වාස් පහරදීමත් සමග ඇමෙරිකාවේ වොෂිංටන් අගනුවරදී සිදුවූ ගැටුමකින් පසු ඔහු සිය ධූරයෙන් ඉල්ලා අස් විය.
එතෙක් වසරකට වැඩි කාලයක් තිස්සේ පුරප්පාඩු වී තිබූ බි‍්‍රතාන්‍යයේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ කොමසාරිස් ධූරයේ වැඩ බලනු ලැබුවේ චානක තල්පහේවා මහතා විසිනි.
හිටපු ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක‍්‍රිකට් නායක කුමාර් සංගක්කාරටද එම ධූරය බාර ගන්නා ලෙස ජනාධිපති මෛත‍්‍රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතා ආරාධනා කළත් ඔහු එය ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කළේය.
