THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SRI LANKAN LAWYERS IN THE UK (ASLLUK) ON 6th JUNE 2015

The Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK held its Annual General Meeting on 6th June 2015 at Garden Court Chambers, 57-60 Lincoln’s Inn Fields. London, WC2A 3LJ.

Mr. Harendra De Silva QC the president of ASLLUK welcomed the members and guests.  A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar of three hours held for solicitors and barristers with two speakers from 9 Bedford Row was very interesting.  Mr. Steven Kay QC who leads the International Team of the chambers spoke on Sri Lanka and International legal issues arising from the 30 year conflict while Ms. Gillian Higgins spoke on Different forms of Inquiries and Tribunals to tackle alleged international crimes.

A delicious Sri Lankan buffet lunch was served by Bilal and his team from Golden Platter.
AGM commenced at 2.30 PM and Miss. Surya Samaraweera presented the General Secretary’s annual report. Mr. Selvanayagam Sathananthan, the treasurer, then presented his annual report.

The Association of Sri-Lankan Lawyers is actively and continuously engaged in resolving issues concerning solicitors, barristers and law students, safeguarding and preserving human rights, bringing about peace and reconciliation amongst communities, providing scholarships to underprivileged students at the Sri-Lanka Law College, donating law books to public libraries, assisting legal aid centres in Sri Lanka and contributing to numerous charitable activities.
