It is very sad to hear 3 people died in Sri Lanka after coming into contact with a downed power line. You would think that you can survive by just making sure you don't touch the live wires, but you'd be wrong. The situation is much complicated than anyone would think.

If you are in a vehicle, Safest thing to do is to stay in the car and call for help. If you are walking by and see a downed power line, stay at least 35 feet away from it. If the situation is different where a fire is involved and you cannot stay in the car, you have to be very careful when getting out of the car. Take a look at the video below and you'll never, it might be very useful.
