All Night Chanting Ceremony 2017 at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham

Annual All Night Chanting Ceremony 2017 at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham organised by Most Ven. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Maha Thera and residents monks and devotees of the temple was held successfully with a large gathering at the temple premises throughout the night of the 17th of June 2017 commemorating the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka and also to bless whole beings transfer merits to departed devotees.


This year Paritta Chanting was sponsored by Dr. Nadeesha Kalpanee Wijendra, Mr Marlon Wijendra and Family. Heel dane was offered to monks by all devotees of the temple.


The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom, H.E. Amari Wejewardene and Mr. Chandraprema Gamage, Secretary for the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.


The event also featured a large Poson Thorana that signified the story of Sama Jathakaya presented by the Birmingham Sri Lankan Young Society for the first time in Birmingham.


Following monks from different Buddhist Vihara's around the UK, Europe, and Sri Lanka participated to the Paritta Chanting. Most Ven. Kanthale Wijithawansa Thera of Thames Buddhist Vihara. Ven. Anamaduwe Wimalajewa Thera of Nottingham Shanti Vihara. Dr Ven. Hadupalpola Mahinda Nayaka Thera and Ven. Nepale Sumana Thera of Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre, Kingsbury. Ven. Kuruduwathe Pannasiri Thera of Bristol Buddhist Vihara. Ven. Akurala Samitha Thera of Letchworth Dhamma Nikethanaya Buddhist Centre. Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thera, Ven. Babarakotuwe Ananda Mangala Thera and Ven. Dodangoda Sumedha Thera of Athuladassana Viharaya. Ven. Madugalle Mahanama Thera of Plaistow Sri Sambodhi Viharaya. Ven.Thissapura Sugatharathana Thera of Liverpool Sri Sambuddha Viharaya. Ven. Kannemahara Piyasiri Thera from Germany. Ven. Mapalagama Soratha Thera, and Resident monks of Jethavana Buddhist Vihara assisted to the success of the event.
